You can read the series here. 1.43pm GMT One of Sydney’s most controversial New Year’s Eve fireworks displays has gone off without a hitch as almost $1m was raised for bush communities, reports the Australian Associated Press.Crowds lining the city’s harbour watched the display as Aboriginal electronic duo Electric Fields kicked off an all-Australian musical playlist. The pylons of the centrepiece Sydney Harbour Bridge earlier lit up with messages urging donations to the Red Cross’ disaster relief fund. By midnight, more than $700,000 had been raised.
