In an unprecedented judgment, the high court ruled on Thursday that the MoD breached the Geneva conventions and British soldiers had meted out “inhuman and degrading treatment” to Iraqi civilians, including beatings, and sleep and sensory deprivation. There was no evidence that the detainees were involved in any terrorist activity or posed any threat to the security of Iraq.
