I spoke to her cousin Clarrie Mendy shortly before the inquiry and got a sense of a strong, independent west African woman devoted to her only birth daughter, Khadija Saye.I didn’t know she had a niece, Marion Telfer, who considered her an irreplaceable mother figure in her life.
