My guess is that he may well turn out to be a better batter than bowler. Willey is run out off the last ball, but what matters is that he and Root piled up 83 off only 52 balls, and England got close to the 330 that they had been eyeing before the mid-innings slump. What also matters, very much with a five-Test series coming up, is that Root is right back in form. No wonder the cameras find Ed Smith laughing his head off.
