Watching it in the lockdown era, when contact with parents has become verboten for many, you could get dewy-eyed at that. But dewy-eyed isn\u2019t quite how Brister experienced it. Her \u201cdogmatic, confrontational, angry Spanish mum\u201d drives her round the bend, triggering this hour-long tirade about mothers and daughters, \u201cboys are better\u201d and how still, after all these years, women get too small a slice of the pie. \u201cGive me my fucking pie back!\u201d bellows Brister, and the crowd (51% of it, at least) goes wild.It\u2019s not just mum who has focused Brister\u2019s mind \u2013 and her fury. With her partner Chloe, she\u2019s now a mother herself to four-year-old twin boys. Other people\u2019s confusion about same-sex parenting; other mothers\u2019 unwelcome advice about child-rearing \u2013 Brister spits tacks at it all, not least because of its often gendered assumptions. Why don\u2019t we let boys emote? Why can\u2019t girls and women talk about their periods \u2013 far less the menopause, in whose foothills 44-year-old Brister now finds herself?
