La bas\u00edlica ortodoxa, construida en el siglo VI, fue convertida en mezquita tras la conquista de Constantinopla por los otomanos en 1453 y mantuvo ese estatus hasta 1934, cuando un decreto ministerial le quit\u00f3 toda funci\u00f3n de templo y la convirti\u00f3 en museo.
