Some felt the piece foundered on its choice of subject\u2013 that the tragedy was just too big to be contained on stage. But Davies and Drake disagreed, and their subject for their next work, commissioned for the London Sinfonietta\u2019s 50th anniversary and staged with the Royal Opera, is if anything more ambitious.
